Two of our lab members were spotted at the Sedona Stumble 5K! Did you know regular exercise can help improve brain performance, sharpen your memory, boost your immune system, and increase productivity? All while helping keep your cardiovascular system healthy by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels? We have another 5K our lab plans to run in later in April: NAU SHAC's Annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month 5K!

Happy #WearRedDay! Today, we #GoRedForWomen to help bring awareness to women's heart health! Cardiovascular disease claims the lives of 1 in 3 women, yet most heart disease and stroke deaths are preventable. We support the American Heart Association's #GoRed movement and encourage everyone to take charge of heart health! Arizona Physiological Society Conference (AZPS)

We are so incredibly proud of our students at the Arizona Physiological Society conference! One of our undergrads, Dani (center), talked about her summer project which looked into the barriers to recruiting minorities in research and strategies to help overcome those barriers. Micayla (undergrad, left) and Leah (grad, right) were also authors on the poster! They did a great job shedding some light on this important conversation! 18th Annual Celebraciones de la Gente

16 Oct, 2021
On October 16th, members from our lab participated in United Way of Northern Arizona's volunteer event for Make a Difference Day. We spent this time clearing silt and rock from flood waters at a resident's home in the Sunnyside Neighborhood. Many of our neighbors still need help from the aftermath of the flooding events this past monsoon, it was great to see our community come out to support them! Back at the Market of Dreams!

On the same day of the Science at the Park event, members of our lab also hosted a booth at North Country's See, Test, & Treat Event! This event was designed to help educate the local community about their health while providing opportunities to be tested in routine health measures and seek treatment if needed. Our lab was so excited to attend Flagstaff's Annual Science in the Park event! This event attracted vendors from all over the local science community, from construction companies to raptor demos to aerial acrobatics. We hosted "Cardiovascular Regulation Lab Jeopardy" at our booth, quizzing event participants on the basics of the cardiovascular system and staying healthy. It was a great opportunity to share who we are and the research we're doing with the community. Out in the Community- Filling Sandbags for Sunnyside
11 Sep, 2021
Members of our lab participated in United Way of Northern Arizona's volunteer event on Saturday, September 11th. This event involved filling sandbags to help prevent flood damage in the Sunnyside neighborhood which was recently affected by numerous flash flooding events during the monsoons. By the end of the event, volunteers built 65 pallets of sandbags (roughly 3250 individual sandbags) to add to the stock in preparation for upcoming rains.
